Both real and fake Christmas trees can be very expensive.  Try looking for used fake trees in thrift stores, on apps like LetGo, or even your family and friends.

When it comes to decorations homemade is the way to go.  They will be less expensive however they will be more meaningful and valuable to your family.  Get creative and let the kids make their own ornaments and trinkets for the tree.

Make a batch of homemade cookies instead and give those as gifts. Get crafty if that’s your thing and come up with something cute but inexpensive.

Challenge yourself to make or repurpose gifts for each other. Spend your money wisely on what’s most important to you and your loved ones and you’ll have a wonderful Holiday Season no matter how much money you have.

  1. When I was broke, my daughter and I made a paper Christmas tree on the wall. I’ve seen felt ones made too. My daughter made all the decorations. We even sprayed it with pine scent. I have pictures of the different ones from several years. Wonderful memories.

    1. Thanks for sharing Dawne! That sounds like a fun time for both you and your daughter. I’m sure your daughter will have fond memories of that special Christmas. Just proves that it’s more about the activities then the money.
